  1. ~CATEGORY FILES
  2.  
  3.       This is one of more than 80 different categories of software
  4.  available from this catalog.  After selecting a category you may
  5.  search the text by pressing ENTER or scroll the text using the PgUp
  6.  and PgDn and the arrow keys.  You may also tag filenames for later
  7.  retrieval using the + and - keys.
  8.  
  9. ~CATEGORY FILES
  10. ~SELECT PROGRAM CATEGORIES
  11.  
  12.       Selecting this option will display a list of over 80 program
  13.  categories.  In addition to the program categories there are a
  14.  number of text files that can be viewed, program features such as
  15.  printing the catalog, globally searching, checking your machines
  16.  hardware specifications and more.
  17.  
  18.  NOTE:  If you are viewing this catalog as a 2 disk set you will
  19.  occasionally have to change disks.  Any time the program cannot find
  20.  a file it will ask you to insert the other disk.  This is necesary
  21.  when viewing the categories as well as when searching and printing
  22.  the catalog.

  24.       If you have a hard disk we highly recommend you install the
  25.  catalog.  When running from a hard disk the speed of the file search
  26.  will be dramatically increased.

  28. ~SELECT PROGRAM CATEGORIES
  29. ~REVIEW TAGGED PROGRAMS
  30.  
  31.       While you are viewing the different program categories you can
  32.  use the + and - keys to TAG or UNTAG files.  After you have tagged
  33.  files you may use this option to review your tagged choices.
  34.  
  35.       You may also save your tagged files to a floppy disk.  You may
  36.  then take the floppy disk with your tagged files on it to your share-
  37.  ware dealer.  His program will "read in" your tagged files and make
  38.  disk copies.

  40. ~REVIEW TAGGED PROGRAMS
  41. ~TAG CATEGORIES TO SEARCH
  42.  
  43.       From this screen you may search the entire catalog or select-
  44.  tively search any of over 90 categories.  If you know what category
  45.  of program you are searching for such as EDUCATION or GAMES you may
  46.  scroll thru category list and "tag" only the categories you need.
  47.  This will greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to search.  You
  48.  may use the following keys to "tag" or "untag" categories:

  53.       DELETE or -                UNTAGS the HI-LITED file

  60.       After you have tagged the categories to search you must enter a
  61.  "search string".  Press the ENTER key and you will be prompted to 
  62.  enter a string to search for.  This string can be any word or number
  63.  or combination of words and numbers.  You may also do AND/OR searches.

  65.  AND/OR SEARCHING

  67.       An AND search allows you to enter up to 5 different strings then
  68.  have the program search for occurances of them when they appear
  69.  together in the same description.  For example: GAME and VGA would
  70.  find only programs that had both the word GAME and the word VGA some-
  71.  where in their description.  If the AND search had an additional
  72.  string such as: GAME and VGA and ARCADE the program would find only
  73.  VGA ARCADE GAMES.

  75.       An OR search allows you to search for multiple strings at the
  76.  same time.  You may enter up to 5 separate strings.  For example:
  77.  VGA or EGA or CGA would locate all programs that have graphic
  78.  capibilities.

  80.  NOTE:  Using AND when searching causes the program to search the
  81.         entire description.  A single word search does a line by line
  82.         search.

  84. ~TAG CATEGORIES TO SEARCH
  85. ~VIEWING TEXT FILES

  87.      This catalog can have any number of informative ASCII text files.
  88.  These files may contain DOS/SHAREWARE help, store location, etc.

  93.        While viewing the different categories in our catalog you have
  94.  two additional options.  You may tag files to review later (Tagged
  95.  files can be saved to disk), and search for any string using AND/OR
  96.  specifiers.  The following keys are active while viewing the program
  97.  descriptions:

  99.          F1              - Displays this help screen.
  100.          INSERT or +     - TAGS the hi-lited FILENAME.
  101.          DEL or -        - UN-TAGS the hi-lited FILENAME.
  102.          PGUP            - Scrolls the file UP one page.
  103.          PGDN            - Scrolls the file DOWN one page.
  104.                        - Scrolls the file UP or DOWN one line.
  105.          HOME            - Moves to the TOP of the file.
  106.          END             - Moves to the END of the file.
  107.          SPACEBAR        - TAGS or UN-TAGS all files.
  108.          ESC             - RETURNS to the MAIN MENU.
  109.          ENTER           - Brings up the VIEW MENU.

  111.  NOTE:  You must tag the line that contains the FILENAME and NUMBER!
  112.         All lines can be tagged but only the NAME & NUMBER line is used.
  113.         To search the descriptions press the ENTER key to display the
  114.         VIEW MENU.

  139.       From this screen you may print the entire catalog or select-
  140.  tively print any of over 90 categories.  You may use the following
  141.  keys to "tag" or "untag" categories:

  151.       After you have tagged the categories to print press the ENTER
  152.  key.  You will be prompted ARE YOU READY TO PRINT <Y/N>?  Make sure
  153.  your printer is ready then press the Y key to begin.

  155.  NOTE:  The entire catalog is over 800k of text.  As a general rule one
  156.         page of text equals about 3k of memory or disk space.  This
  157.         means printing the entire catalog would require nearly 270
  158.         sheets of paper.

  161. ~SEARCHING DESCRIPTIONS
  162.  
  163.       This option performs a NON-CASE-SENSITIVE search in the currently
  164.  selected category.  To search press the ENTER key then you will be
  165.  prompted to enter a string to search for.  This string can be any word
  166.  or number or combination of words and numbers.  You may also do AND/OR
  167.  searches.  The HI-LITE bar will stop on each match it finds.  You may
  168.  use the + and - keys to "tag" or "untag" files for later review while
  169.  searching.  Press ENTER key to FIND THE NEXT occurance of a string.

  189.       This menu choice simply returns you the category list.  Any
  190.  files you have tagged will have been saved.  You may review tagged
  191.  files from the MAIN MENU.

  196.       This option simply returns you to the viewing the currently
  197.  selected category.  Pressing the ESC key will do the same thing.

  202.       After you have reviewed the program descriptions and tagged
  203.  some files you may save to or retrieve these files from disk.  This
  204.  allows you to review files at different times without having to note
  205.  the files already reviewed.

  207.       When you save your files to floppy disk a file named TAGLIST
  208.  will be created.  If you take this file to your shareware dealer
  209.  his software will be able to read the file then make disk copies.
  210.  
  211.  NOTE:  Two of the most common errors that occur when trying to save
  212.         a tagged file list is NOT ENOUGH DISK SPACE and TOO MANY
  213.         FILES.  You will need at least 2k of free disk space and less
  214.         than 112 files on the floppy disk. (DOS permits only 112
  215.         files in the "root" directory of a floppy disk.)

  247.  various hardware components.  This can be very useful if you are

  251.  graphics.  By comparing your equipment to the hardware requirements
  252.  listed in each program's description you can make a more informed
  253.  software selection before you place your order.

  258.       While reviewing the various categories you can use the + and -
  259.  keys to tag or untag different file names.  (Press F1 while viewing
  260.  programs for more information on tagging files.)  You can then use
  261.  this option to save these file names to disk for later retrieval.

  266.       This option allow you to search the entire catalog or tag
  267.  specific categories then search only them.  (For additional infor-
  268.  mation press the F1 key after selecting this option.)

  273.       After you have tagged the files you would like to order (Or you
  274.  have retrieved tagged files from disk.)  You can select this option to
  275.  have the program print an order form.  This order form should contain
  276.  a list of your tagged files along with the name and address to send it
  277.  to, the total number of disks ordered, pricing information and sales
  278.  policies.

  294.       This error indicates that you have tried to address an array
  295.  element that does not exist.  Following is a list of possible causes.

  297.       *     Having more than 35 lines in the OPENING file.
  298.       *     Having more than 1000 lines in any text file.
  299.       *     Tagging more than 130 files at one time while viewing the
  300.              catalog.
  301.       *     Having more than 20 menu names above the CATEGORIES list.
